Epidemiological Profile of traumatic spinal cord injuries in the National Referral Hospital, Bhutan

Introduction: The number of traumatic spinal cord injuries associated with a fracture is on rise which compounded by in motor vehicle accidents the country. aim study was to assess frequency, cause, pattern, and demographic profile Bhutanese population. Methods: A retrospective conducted at National Referral Hospital from 2018 2020. records patients, treated for injury were reviewed. Results: Of total 100 patients admitted during period, there 69 males (69%) 31 females (31%). mean age 44.18 years (±16.625 SD). Falls (61%) most common cause spine followed road traffic accident (27%). Lumbar (42%) cervical (31%) thoracic (23%) injuries. 63 did not have while 37% had those injuries, 20% them complete (SCI) 17% incomplete SCI. Regarding treatment, 42% underwent surgical procedures 58% managed conservatively. length hospital stay after 6.62 days (± 26.06 SD, range 1-215). Conclusions: found that falls accidents. By collaborating safety division, our findings potential significantly reduce enhance preventive measures. Additionally, we can provide valuable education families regarding rehabilitation social support, ultimately leading improved outcomes better quality life individuals living
